Bargue’s Dream

During the painting of Bargue’s Dream, the atelier master Charles Bargue was a strong influence. If you want to understand how light wraps around form, go study him.

In my Neon Classical series, I was inspired by the idea of what the old masters’ work might look like in the modern day. The evolution of pigments and artificial light sources would surely have influenced how they chose to interpret the world.

In terms of composition and technique, I think they nailed it. But in order to record my experience in this modern day, I felt compelled to use modern lighting and colour work. It felt like the honest thing to do.
